Lunch at Piggy Smalls

fullsizeoutput_a34Yesterday was my very first visit to Piggy Smalls at Ward Village. Of course I had heard of it, passed by it, and seen the amazing pictures on Instagram. I’ve also eaten at their Chinatown restaurant, Pig and the Lady, but this was my first time eating at THE Piggy Smalls. Spoiler alert: I was NOT disappointed.fullsizeoutput_a33We arrived at Piggy Smalls a little after 2pm for lunch service on a Friday. It was a hot summer day, so most people were sitting inside the cool, air-conditioned restaurant and not at the open air outdoor tables.  It was pretty full for a late lunch hour, but we were seated right away.

We started out with some icy drinks that really hit the spot in this heat. My iced coffee was made with a dark roast drip and condensed milk. While my lunch date had the orange cream slushy float, which actually tasted like real oranges mixed with creamy goodness.

Mushroom Pho-Strami Dip Banh Mi + Small Pho with Noodles $20

When I saw the vegetarian banh mi and pho options on the menu, I was torn. I wanted to try both! Then I saw that you could order the banh mi with a small side of pho noodles for $4 more, I was sold!

My entire plate was wonderfully flavorful and delicous! From the citrus dressing on the greens to the special sauce in the banh mi, I was in heaven. The vegan pho was made with spiced vegetable and kombu (seaweed) broth with tomato confit, enoki mushroom, ginger, calamansi, herbs, and fresh rice noodles. As I write this, I wish I had another bowl! It was a lot of food, and I took home half my sandwich, which I happily ate for another meal.

The Pho-Strami Dip $17

My lunch date had the meaty version of my banh mi. His sandwich was filled with all-day smoked brisket with pho and pastrami spices, toasted pickled mustard seeds, sriracha, lime onions, their super awesome sauce, and a side of pho broth. He left nothing behind!

As mentioned before, there were indoor and outdoor seating options.

Look for this little piggy on the corner when you turn into Ward Center.
