Lovin Oven in Kailua, HI

IMG_6732Recently, I had a “girls night out” with some of my long time friends. I’ve known these  women since I was 12 years old. Outings with them are always fun and typically involve really great food and of course great conversation. They inspire me, share in rough times, celebrate each other, and offer support. This was my first time hanging out with all of them since starting this blog, and one of my lovely friends, Katie, suggested that we check out Lovin Oven in Kailua. She suggested that it might be a good place to feature on the blog.

IMG_6739We arrived at 5:30 pm on a Saturday night. The restaurant has a tiny interior with 3 tables. You order and pay at the counter, and they serve you when the food is ready.

Outdoor seating along the side of the building

We opted to sit outside, as it felt more spacious and comfortable. We also felt like we could be a little louder while catching up with each other.  Although we weren’t drinking on this particular occasion, it was BYOB. They only serve water, so if you’re feeling like drinking anything else with your pizza, bring it with you.

Large Spinach Salad $15

There were 4 of us, so we ordered 2 large salads and their larger 16″ pizza to share. The spinach salad consisted of spinach, cherry tomatoes, red onions, roasted walnuts, croutons, vegan feta, and home-made balsamic dressing. The feta was made from tofu. I’m a sucker for balsamic dressing, so I really liked this one.

Large Greek Salad $15

The Greek salad consisted of mixed greens, cherry tomatoes, red onions, cucumbers, Kalamata olives, vegan feta, home-made Italian dressing, and parsley.

16″ hand tossed pizza, half and half with 1 sauce $32

We chose a half and half pizza with tomato sauce. It was $3 more to split your pizza this way. We got the Supreme on one side (mushrooms, red onions, green peppers, black olives, vegan Italian sausage, and fresh oregano) and the Lovin on the other side (Vegan mozarella, red onions, mushrooms, sun dried tomato, Kalamata olives, green peppers, jalapenos, and fresh oregano). Since there was 4 of us, we each had 2 pieces. Between the 2 salads and the pizza, I thought it was a satisfying amount of food for everyone.

The pizza had a crispy crust and was very tasty. Although I liked both sides, I’d probably get the Lovin again, as I liked the little kick from the jalapenos.

Lovin Oven is located in Kailua, next to McDonalds

Overall, this was a cute pizza place with friendly and efficient service. It’s also great for anyone looking for vegan options. If you’re going to eat there, be ready to wait a little bit longer for your food, as it’s made to order. Maybe take your favorite friends, so you can “catch up,” while you wait for your pie!
