My mom has always had a giant avocado tree in the backyard. Ever since I can remember, we have helped with picking the fruit or raking the leaves made by the giant tree. No one in our family has ever bought an avocado at the store, because every year around December or January, there are tons of ripe fruit. We get our fill of guacamole, avocado toast, and avocado-topped everything, until the next year.
This year, my mom had A LOT of the tree trimmed. She did it for the health of the tree and was told that it will probably have fruit again in 3 years. Although we were a bit disappointed in losing our source of the healthy fruit for a few years, there were literally hundreds of avocados that came down when they cut the tree!
I got a bucket-full which I distributed to clients and friends, but I still have avocados that I’m enjoying with a variety of meals, including smoothies. I thought I’d share my avocado-banana smoothie recipe with you!
A creamy blend of avocado, bananas, and nutmilk.
- 1/2 a ripe avocado
- 1 frozen banana
- 1/2 cup nutmilk (I used Milkadamia unsweetened macadamia milk)
- 1 T almond butter
- 1 T finely ground flaxseed
- Blend all ingredients
- Top with your favorite granola, fruit, and/or nuts. I used more sliced banana and Anahola Granola.
