Breakfast at The Beet Box Cafe

Advertisements

My friend, Vanessa, invited me to my first ever yoga class at Open Space Yoga in Haleiwa this morning.  It was a small, all levels class of 5 people, and it moved slowly with clear instruction. This was perfect for my first experience, and I walked out feeling calm and relaxed.

I also walked out feeling super hungry, since I didn’t want to eat breakfast before yoga. Vanessa lives near Haleiwa and recommended that we have breakfast at Beet Box Cafe.

It was a cute, clean, and comfortable space with seating inside and outside. There was an unexpected sprinkling of Lionel Richie throughout the cafe, but who doesn’t love a little Lionel Richie?

Some great looking baked goods to tempt you at the cash register.

The menu was vegetarian with many gluten free items.

I ordered the Alligators smoothie, which is made with bananas, kale, almond butter, spirulina, honey, and almond milk. I’m a sucker for a smoothie with almond butter and this was no exception. It was thick and delicious!

I also ordered the Beet Box Burrito, a whole-wheat tortilla filled with scrambled eggs, brown rice, black beans, avocado, mango salsa, and kale.  Yum!

Did I mention that I was REALLY hungry? AND the baked goods were calling my name from that shiny case by the register, so I ordered the mint chocolate walnut cookie, too.  Very yummy with just a hint of mint.

Vanessa had the Zen plate for breakfast, a curry seasoned scramble with broccoli, zucchini, onion, and carrots. It was served with brown rice, black beans, avocado, and sunflower sprouts.

They’ve got great merchandise for sale, including mugs with Lionel Richie on them!

If you find yourself in Haleiwa, I would definitely recommend stopping by the Beet Box Cafe for breakfast or lunch.  They have a really wide assortment of delicious vegetarian items. Maybe take a yoga class beforehand and make morning of it!
