KCC Farmer’s Market Haul

A recent trip to the KCC Farmer’s Market was full of lots of great finds. I thought I’d do a haul post, and feature some of the great vendors you can find at the market. If you are interested in visiting the market, they are open from 7:30 am to 11:00 am every Saturday. Wear a mask and practice social distancing. It’s located at 4303 Diamond Head Rd., Honolulu, HI 96816

• Ma’ona Musubi

• Aside from their appearances at the KCC Farmer’s Market, Ma’ona also has a shop in downtown Honolulu.
• Ma’ona serves up a variety of tasty musubi and donburi (rice bowls). On this occasion, I tried 3 different musubi: spicy shrimp, kombu, and shiso. They were all delicious, but the spicy shrimp was my favorite. It was my first time having this type of musubi and it was just spicy enough. They were $2.50 each, and make the perfect quick bite.

• Aside from the KCC Farmer’s Market, find them at the Lokahi Kailua Market on Sundays and Kailua Farmer’s Market on Thursdays.
• I tried one of each of their yummy flavors: Chocolate Sprinkles, Sugar n Spice, Nutella, and Strawberry Mango Jam. Aside from the Nutella which had some dairy, all were vegan and gluten free. These donuts were the perfect tiny size to get a taste of all the flavors without feeling overstuffed. I highly recommend, especially if you’re looking for a vegan or gluten free treat.

• Daizu Tei

• Aside from the KCC Farmer’s Market, Daizu Tei can also be found at the Kaka’ako and Pearlridge Farmer’s Markets on Saturdays and at the Mililani High School Market on Sundays.
• They feature soft mochi filled with fresh fruit. On this particular day, they had flavors such as grape, mango, and honeydew, as well as their strawberry and banana flavors which were part of their regular menu. Some flavors had the option of white beans or no beans in them. The variety of fresh fruit inside the mochi was something new for me, and the fruits were all perfectly sweet. Due to the nature of the mochi, they should be refrigerated and eaten the same day.

• Lu’au Bombs

• Aside from KCC Farmer’s Market, they are also at the Blaisdell and Windward markets on Wednesdays.
• Lu’au Bombs features a variety of flavors including Braised Short Ribs and Corned Beef and Onions. I’m a pescatarian and there weren’t any fish options on this occasion, so the Taro and Sweet Potato was perfect for me. They use coconut milk, which is great if you like that creamy, slightly sweet flavor. Each bomb is $5 and you can bring home an extra one to eat later!
