Higoto Japanese Eatery

Looking for beautiful and tasty bento and musubi in Honolulu? I highly recommend that you try Higoto Japanese Eatery on Waialae Ave. in Kaimuki. I went fairly close to their opening time of 11 a.m. on a Thursday, and they had quite a variety of items avaiable. I chose the butterfish bento, but they also had Shoyu Garlic Salmon, Unagi, Tofu and Veggie, Yakitori Sticks, Yakitori Chicken, Karaage Chicken, Katsu Chicken, Katsu Pork, Hamburger Steak, and a Special Combo Bento available.

My bento came with multigrain rice, shredded carrot, hijiki with corn, and lotus root. It was very filling and tasted great!

Miso Butterfish $13.80

Also known for their layered sushi cups, they had Spicy Ahi and Avocado available, as well as the Crab and Ikura cup. They also have a Salmon and Ikura cup. I tried them all on different occasions and highly recommend all of them. I loved the layers of flavor and texture that they all brought. As a pescatarian and sushi lover, one of these was the perfect meal.

Crab and Ikura Sushi Cup $8.90
Spicy Ahi and Avocado Sushi Cup $8.90
Salmon and Ikura Sushi Cup $8.90

If you just need a quick bite, you can grab a couple musubi. The Kombu and Takuan musubi that I got was made with multigrain rice.

Kombu and Takuan Musubi $2.10

I was pleasantly surprised to find that Higoto was located right next door to Coco Bloom Kitchen in the Kaimuki Shopping Center. It’s on the bottom level by Times. There’s lots of available parking.

My one tip would be to go early, as I’ve heard that items sell out pretty fast here. I’ll definitely be going back to try more of their bento and sushi cups. Let me know if you’ve been here and what you got!
