Whole Foods Hawaii Haul

Groceries are pretty darn expensive in Hawai’i. I usually shop at Costco, and once a month or so, I splurge and browse the aisles of Whole Foods. I thought I’d share what I bought this morning and tell you what I plan to do with my purchases.

1) 365 Organic Marinara Sauce $2.79 2) Banza Penne $3.79 (on sale)  3) Farm Raised Atlantic Salmon Fillets $19.98

Recently, I’ve been picking up this pack of frozen salmon and meal prepping for the week with it. I usually bake it with avocado oil, lemon, salt, and pepper. I’ll eat it with salad throughout the week for lunch or dinner.  While passing through the pastas, I noticed this penne made from chickpeas. I thought I’d add the penne to the meal prepping action. So penne topped with marinara and salmon became the meal of the week!

It took me a little longer than expected to write this post, so here’s a look at the finished product. It came out delicious and healthy!

1) 3 lb bag of Nature’s Pride sweet potatoes $2.39 2) Whole Foods organic baby arugula $3.49 3) Driscoll’s organic strawberries $3.99 (on sale)

So I’ll bake up the sweet potatoes for my carbohydrate this week and I’ll interchange the arugula with some spinach that I already have in the fridge for my salad. I couldn’t pass up the strawberries which were on sale, and I’ll probably eat those on their own or with yogurt for breakfast.

1) GT’s Cocoyo $4.19 (on sale) 2) GT’s Trilogy Kombucha $9.99

I’m a fan of kombucha, specifically GT’s Kombucha. This giant bottle of Trilogy was on sale for $9.99, and I’ll probably mix it with some of my sparkling flavored waters. The Cocoyo was an unexpected purchase. It was also on sale and right next to the kombucha. I thought I’d try it, since it’s also from GT’s. I’ll let you know how it tastes!

1) Black Beans $.99 2) Crumbled Feta Cheese

Here’s where things start to get a little random. I picked up a can of black beans, because I think $.99 is a great price, and it’s always great to have on hand to make a quinoa bowl. I also picked up some Feta Cheese to top a salad. I was thinking of a strawberry, feta, and spinach salad with balsamic. Yum!

1) Theo’s Salted Almond Dark Chocolate $3.79 (on sale) 2) Enjoy Life Mini Chips $5.49

Finally, I picked up a bar of Theo’s dark chocolate to satisfy my sweet cravings. A friend of mine gave me this particular flavor for Christmas, and I’ve been thinking about it ever since. The Enjoy Life Mini Chips are just great to have on hand to add to pancakes or oatmeal, when I want to sweeten things up. They’re dairy free, and taste no different from other chocolate chips.

So there you have it! This is how $64.10 is spent at Whole Foods on a random shopping trip. If you do the math, there’s a bring your own bag credit, bottle fee, and Amazon Prime 10% discount to be factored in there. What are your go-to items at Whole Foods? Let me know in the comments!
