On this beautiful Sunday, my mom requested that we have brunch at Herringbone in Waikiki to celebrate her birthday. She had heard rave reviews about the Herringbone Waikiki brunch from her friends. I made reservations online with Open Table. It was busy at 11:30 am, but there were still tables available.

We started out with some refreshing drinks, which were perfect for this hot, summer day.

We had a great server who explained the restaurant’s menu and gave us her recommendations. She told us that the Buffalo Octopus was the most popular item on the menu. She explained that it was their take on buffalo wings, but they used a tentacle of an octopus instead of chicken wings. It had the spice that you would expect from buffalo wings, and the tentacle was nicely charred and crisp. Served on chickpeas, it also came with shaved carrots and cucumber. I would recommend this dish as an appetizer to share, before your main dish.

I had checked out the menu online, when I made the reservation. I knew that I had to try the Herringbone Eggs Benedict. It consisted of king crab, uni, caviar, hollandaise sauce, spinach, and sweet bread. The regular order comes with bacon, but I got my bacon on the side, since I don’t eat bacon. I gave it to my mom and sister, who both said the bacon was really good. I absolutely loved my eggs benedict. The uni and caviar added the perfect salty flavor, while the sweet bread was well…sweet! I would definitely recommend this dish and would get it again.

My mom ordered the Smoked Trout Caesar which included romaine lettuce, a soft boiled egg, ikura, croutons, and of course that smoked trout. I tried it and thought that the smoked flavor of the fish was delicious on this salad.

We decided to share a couple of desserts on the menu. The lilikoi creme brulee is a must for any lilikoi lovers. It had the tartness of lilikoi with that crispy, sweet top expected of a creme brulee. It was also served with housemade chocolate dipped shortbread.

Another delicious dessert choice was the cheesecake with fruit salsa. The pineapple in the salsa was particularly sweet and refreshing. Trust me. You can’t go wrong with either of these desserts!

The tables are nicely spaced and the outdoor area utilizes fans to keep the area cool. There is a smaller, indoor area that is air conditioned.
I would highly recommed Herringbone Waikiki for brunch. The food was really tasty and the service was great! Where do you like to go for brunch?
