I’m always interested in finding easy to prepare, non-meat options for lunch and dinner. I decided to give these Beyond Burger patties from Costco a try. It helped that a passerby went out of his way to tell me how delicious he thought these vegan burgers were, while I was checking out the label in the freezer section.

I’ve never really talked about this on the blog, but I’ve been a pescatarian for about 25 years. I stopped eating meat, after taking a Foods and Nutrition Class in high school. Whether you’re a vegan, pescatarian, or carnivore, I think it’s important that you enjoy your food. These patties are indeed a vegan option. That being said, it didn’t really appeal to me that these patties looked so much like meat. It kind of grossed me out, and I had to keep looking at the package to make sure they were vegan. These might be a good option for someone who loves meat, but is trying to cut back, as they’ve got the real “meat look.”

I decided to taste it without anything on it to see what it really tasted like. Overall, the taste was ok for me. It had a “boca burger” taste but was slightly more juicy. It was a good size patty that really held its shape while cooking and eating. I think plating it as a traditional burger, with a bun, lettuce, tomato, and maybe ketchup and mustard would add a lot to the flavor.

I’m always looking for good non-meat protein sources. This is a great option with 20 grams per patty. I’m not a nutritionist, so I’ll let you check out these details to see if they fit your needs.
Would I buy these again? Maybe. There are quite a few non-meat patty options out there, and this might be a good one to rotate in for the protein content. I’ve got 6 more patties in the freezer to experiment with, and I think plating it the right way with the right toppings could change my feelings about the flavor.
I’m curious if you’ve tried these patties yet. Drop me a note in the comments to let me know what you think and if you have any non-meat patty recommendations.
