0BEF6158-995F-43F9-90AC-68D305594D6DHands down, breakfast is my favorite meal of the day. In fact, I’m often a “breakfast for dinner” kind of gal. To say I was excited about trying some breakfast items from Foodland Kahala MKT. for their ambassador program is probably an understatement. As soon as I saw the ingredients, I started envisioning a relaxing weekend morning with all the makings for a delicious meal.

What makes the perfect breakfast? For me, it’s having both a sweet and savory component. Pancakes, waffles, muffins, scones, and even toast with jam fall into the sweet category for me. As a pescatarian, eggs, fish, or some kind of vegetarian patty falls into the savory category. To round out the breakfast,  a cup of hot coffee from the French press or an iced coffee with a little cream and sugar is a must!

Let’s meet the components of this non-meat breakfast: Maika’i Banana Pancake Mix, Maika’i Coconut Syrup, Beyond Meat-Beyond Sausage, a Sumo orange, and Maika’i Dark Roast Ground Coffee. I also added some sliced banana on top of the pancake and inside the pancake batter.

I was the most curious about the Beyond Sausage, as this was my first time trying it. I have tried the Beyond Burger (see the review here) but was wondering about Beyond Meat’s other products.

I have to say that this was really delicious. It fried up and browned in a pan in about 5-6 minutes. It had the taste of sausage and was the perfect savory partner to my pancakes. With 16 grams of plant protein per serving, I would say that it’s a solid source, if you’re trying to make sure you get enough protein in your diet. As you can see from the packaging, they’ve got it pictured in a hot dog bun, which I think would be another great way to eat it.

The pancakes were also quite delicious. I made mines a little thicker, but you could thin them out a bit more by adding a little more water. The coconut syrup was absolutely delicious, and I think it would be an amazing topping on ice cream or other desserts. I’m a sucker for dark roast coffee, so this blend was a winner for me.

The Maika’i brand of products is available exclusively at Foodland, and there are more pancake mix flavors available, like Macadamia and Buttermilk. The syrups also come in Guava and Lilikoi. I know the coffees also come in a range of flavors. A pancake mix, bottle of syrup, and bag of coffee would make a fantastic gift for the breakfast lover in your life!

Let me know in the comments below, if you’ve tried the Beyond Sausage, or if you have a favorite plant-based breakfast item that falls into the savory category.
