Restaurants are slowly re-opening their dining rooms on O’ahu. On Saturday, I enjoyed my first dining out experience in months with a friend, who I hadn’t seen in person since February. It felt great to share a meal and catch up in person at Japanese Restaurant Rinka in Kaka’ako.

I ordered the chirashi set, which came with 2 small dishes of my choice. I chose the fish cake with seaweed tempura and agedashi tofu. It was a ton of food and very filling.

My friend ordered the nigiri set with the same small dishes.

We had 12:00pm reservations on a Saturday. There were approximately 5-6 tables with patrons in the dining room area. They took our temperature, gave us a squirt of hand sanitizer, and we wore our masks until we were seated. The servers wore masks and clearly disinfected each table, after customers finished their meals and left. It felt very safe and clean in the restaurant.
I highly recommend Rinka for a nice lunch or dinner. They had bentos for sale at their front door and are still doing their takeout menu.
